Do you struggle with brain fog?

Do you struggle with brain fog?

How scary is brain fog?

Or feeling like you're losing your memory?

As we 'age' (I am in total denial that I am still not 25 😏), the thought of memory problems can bring real fear to many of us... whether or not you have a family history of dementia or Alzheimer's.

But there is a real reality that brain fog and memory issues arise for many women as we reach peri menopause and menopause.

There are reasons for this - we have estrogen receptors in our brains and the  overall lowering of estrogen in menopause (although estrogen levels can fluctuate widely in peri-menopause) can have a real impact on our cognitive function.

Also have you heard of serotonin?  It's a pretty well know neurotransmitter which is also affected by menopause.

So what to do about it?

Much of the research around treatment is focussed on HRT - which does show some benefit.

But many women are unable / unwilling / looking for alternatives to hrt.

This whole area is one reason I recently undertook a short course run by a neuroscientist focussing on the female brain.

Diving into the research the good news is that there is good research showing benefits from using the power of phytoestrogens, particularly isoflavones, on helping with memory and cognitive function.

So if you’re struggling with brain fog don’t despair - do reach out and have a conversation and look at the various options out there - I love talking about this stuff.
