Spiced Hot Chocolate

Spiced Hot Chocolate

Some days you just need a hug-in-a-mug. Maybe it’s cold and rainy outside and you need warming up; maybe you’ve been gardening and want to sit down with a comforting drink. Whatever has led you to a comfort-food yearning this delicious spiced cocoa will hit the spot. This delicious hot chocolate is a lower-sugar option than the traditional powdered hot chocolate.

All you need (to make 1 mug)

You can adjust the spices to suit you - these are some of my favourite hence why I used them:

I mugful of milk (use your favourite milk)

1 teaspoon cocoa powder

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/3 teaspoon black treacle

Ground grains of 3 cardamom pods

Nugmeg to taste

All you do:

  1. Put all the ingredients barring the milk and treacle in a saucepan. Add 2 tablespoons of milk and stir with the powders to form a thin paste.

  2. Once free of lumps slowly add the remaining milk and the treacle. stirring all the time.

  3. Heat til nearly boiling and pour into a mug.

  4. Grate fresh nutmeg over and enjoy!
